There is more to coolant than colour

Which colour should you choose?

Comma has taken a sample of 14 coolants from 14 main dealers, none of which were the same colour. This experiement shows that there is no real difference between coolants and esentially there can only be 2 options for your vehicle.

The colour in a coolant is just a dye, it gives no indication of quality or type of inhibitor technology used. There are 2 main types of coolant technology vehicle manufacturers specify.

 OAT Based coolant

1. OAT Based

Organic Acid Technology - Silicate Free

Covers 70% of new vehicles

Covers over 2000 models

Protects from Corrosion

Protects from Erosion

Protect from Over Heating & Freezing

2. Silicate Based

Nitrite, Amine & Phosphate Free

Covers 30% of new vehicles

Covers 1800 models

Protects from Corrosion

Protects from Erosion

Protect from Over Heating & Freezing

 Silicate based coolant

Coolants inhibitor package will be depleted after 3 to 5, leaving the system unprotected. If you are unsure how old it is, Drain, Fluch and Refill. Refilling the system can just take 10 minutes with the right equipment.
