2006 sees Quinton Hazell celebrate 60 years in the Automotive Aftermarket, and with a worldwide distribution network shows no sign of slowing down. Here’s the story of how Quinton Hazell Automotive Limited became market leaders in their field... Eric Quinton Hazell saw a gap in the UK Automotive Industry for pre-packaged repair solutions for vehicles and in 1946, this vision became reality in a small garage in Mochdre, North Wales - Quinton Hazell Automotive was born... Manufacturing ball joints soon grew to other steering components, relationships with suppliers developed along with the offering to the Industry. So much in fact, that by 1955 Quinton Hazell had become part of a vertically integrated group engaged in manufacturing, wholesale distribution and retailing along with a national distributor of parts and an exhaust fitting centre group. During the next 15 years Quinton Hazell Automotive was sold to Burmah Castrol (1972) and then again in 1986 to Echlin Inc. It was during these years that the UK Distribution Head Office in Nuneaton was opened (1975). Until today’s date two further owners – 1998 Dana Corporation and 2004 Affinia – have taken Quinton Hazell under their wings to further develop and manage the business. In the early 90’s (1992) QH Germany became the main distribution warehouse overseas’, 1995 QH Poland opened in Warsaw, 1996 QH Sweden, 1999 a new distribution facility in Milan, Italy and to complement these 2000 saw the opening of the semi-automated distribution facility in Lille, France. The final chapter of this story is still being written. The facility in Nuneaton faces further changes with the introduction of CAT Logistics as a distribution partner. New premises are currently being custom built and early in 2007 the Head Office will operate from Hinckley, Leicestershire, United Kingdom.
